When drawing the initial thoughts of a design we make, as a rule, black marks on white paper. Black represents solids, white the space between the solids, between the enclosure. Yet those white areas are not empty, nor are the solids uniformly the same. Light affects both to varying degrees, and both are there to be manipulated by the architect. We can subsequently check what the effects may be by building either physical or electronic models, or both. At the beginning, however, we have to rely on memory and experience.

That light plays a crucial role in our sensation of space and has been recognized for centuries. Gothic cathedrals are shrines of light and produced some of the most dramatic as well as subtle sculpting of surfaces to direct light.

This is not simply a matter of letting in sunlight; it is a question as to which surfaces are lit and reflect back light. Louis Kahn phrased it poetically as ‘the sun never knew how great it was until it struck the side of a building’ (Johnson, 1975, p.12).

Although light can be described as invisible, its effects are palpable and an inseparable component of architecture. As Richard Meier clearly acknowledged in an interview, ‘. . . For me light is the best and most versatile building material’.

   Aluco bond Is a famous name but others call it Aluminium composite panel or aluminium composite material, because it is a type of flat panel that consists of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a non-aluminium core made of polyethylene. 

 

    Aluminium sheets can be coated with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), fluoropolymer resins (FEVE), or polyester paint. Aluminium can be painted in any kind of colour, and are produced in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic colours as well as patterns that imitate other materials, such as wood, steel, tiles, marble. The core is commonly low density polyethylene, or a mix of low density polyethylene and mineral material to exhibit fire retardant properties.

Art Science Museum, Moshie Safadie

Marina Bay Sands, the most expensive casino in the world located in Singapore will soon open the world’s first ArtScience Museum. The concept of the “Welcoming Hand of Singapore” features 10 “fingers” of the museum anchored by a unique round base in the middle of the composition. Each finger reveals a different gallery. At the “fingertips” openings were created that illuminate the dramatically curved interior walls. The museum’s dish-like roof channels rainwater through the central atrium of the building creating a 35-meter water drop into a small pool. The rainwater is then recycled for use in the building’s restrooms. The author of the design is the world-renowned architect Moshie Safadie. The ArtScience Museum features 21 gallery spaces totaling 6,000 square meters that will deliver exhibits from art and science, media and technology to design and architecture.
